USFWS Project Leader Brett Hortman of the Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery releasing paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) into a tributary of the Red River, Natchitoches, Louisiana, USA. Paddlefish are the oldest surviving animal species in North America and are listed as threatened due in part to habitat loss from the construction of dams and reservoirs.
